METROBALL RULES

Starting the Game and General Rules:

- Six dodgeballs will be used for each game.

- To start the game, each team stands at their respective back line, with six dodgeballs on the center line. When ready someone begins the game by shouting 3, 2, 1 Dodgeball!

- Players are then able to run to the three balls on the right side of their court and retreive them

- The balls MUST go back over the attack line before being thrown across the center line.

-Players cannot touch any part of their opponents half of the court. If any part of a player touches the other side of the court, that person is out.

- If a ball is thrown by a player who steps on/over the line, the ball is considered dead and cannot eliminate an opponent.

*A player may “kamikaze” (i.e.: jump over the line and throw the ball before landing) but when the player lands they are out.

- A ball is considered "dead" as soon as it hits the ground or any other obstacles around the court (e.g. walls, hoops, bags, other players, or by standers). A player is not eliminated after being hit by a dead ball. All other balls are considered "live."

-  If a thrown ball hits an opponent and comes back across the center line, the ball is considered to be dead and only the person who is hit is out.

- Eliminated/Substitute players should do their best to remain on the sidelines, standing in the order in which they were eliminated

- Teams will switch sides of the court after each game.

- Players cannot intentionally kick the ball. Intentional kicking of the balls, or any other signs of unsportsmanlike conduct will result in the player being asked to leave.

Throwing the Balls and Eliminating Players:

- To eliminate a player, a "live" ball must hit a player directly, or be caught by someone on the opposit team

- If a player catches a "live" ball that is thrown at him/her, the thrower is out. In Addition, the team that caught the ball can return a previously eliminated player to the court. The player that returns to the game MUST be the first player who was ruled “out” during that particular game (and the order of returning players should be maintained...i.e. the third player to be eliminated will be the third player to return to the court).

- If a team is in possession of all balls they have 10 seconds before at least one ball crosses over the center line towards the opposing team

- A player that is holding a ball can use it to deflect/block another ball that is thrown at them by an opponent. However, if the ball being held is dropped due to the second ball hitting it, the person who dropped the ball is OUT.

- A player may be in possession of two balls at the same time. If a player catches a ball while in possession of another ball it is considered a good catch.

Rough Play/Player Attitude:

ANY ROUGH OR PHYSICAL PLAY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

All players should do their best to demonstrate good sportsmanship including respect for opposing players, teammates, and bystanders through appropriate language and adult behavior.
